The Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Oyo State has distanced itself from the planned nationwide strike, stating that it will not be participating in the action.
The Oyo state Council expressed confidence in the manner and ways Governor Seyi Makinde has handled the matter thus far, and also optimistic of a positive end result after negotiations are concluded.
In a statement released by the Oyo state Chairman of TUC, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi, on Saturday, November 30, the TUC leader made it clear that it had no intention of joining the strike set to begin on Monday, December 1.
The national body of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) had earlier called for the industrial action as a result of unresolved issues, including fuel price hikes, the minimum wage dispute, and other economic challenges affecting Nigerian workers.
However, Comrade Olabiyi explained that while they sympathize with the plight of Nigerian workers, the Trade Union Congress has not resolved on any form of Industrial action.
Olabiyi noted that the state council had been actively engaging with the Oyo State Government to address the issues affecting workers, and they were optimistic about reaching a positive resolution through dialogue.
“Oyo State TUC is not part of any industrial action due to implementation or non implementation of Minimum wage.
Olabiyi said: “I have been inundated with several call from newsmen on a purported plan for industrial action in some states across Nigeria and Oyo state was mentioned but as TUC Oyo State Council, we have full confidence in the state government and the manner by which this subject is being handled.
“We are fully aware of the some concerns in some states regarding workers welfare, but our decision is based on our unique situation in Oyo State.
“We believe that the path to addressing the grievances of workers here lies in continued negotiation and constructive engagement with the state government.”
Olabiyi urged its members in Oyo State to remain calm and focused on peaceful resolutions.
