The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP campaign planning committee for Ibarapa geopolitical zone in the just concluded Local Government election, Otunba Ademola Ojo popularly known as ‘Ijaya’ has commended governor Seyi Makinde for setting a new record in the political history of the state by conducting two separate local government polls within 5 years.
Ojo, who is the Commissioner for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives in the state also commended the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) as a government institution that has evolved tremendously, describing the just concluded election as credible, free, fair, and transparent.
A statement on Sunday April 28 by the Commissioner who is also a former ALGON chairman in the state as well as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Makinde indicates that with the steady improvements recorded in the conduct local government elections in Oyo, the present administration has returned government back to the people.
While equally congratulating all the new chairmen-elect in Ibarapa geopolitical zone, the Commissioner tasked the winners to see their victory as a call to service and a public demand placed on their shoulders stressing that they owe it an obligation to fulfill electoral promises made to the people.
Ojo showered praises on Governor Makinde for his significant contributions to the advancement of democratic processes in the state across the 33 local government areas.
He further Highlighted the critical role played by OYSIEC and the bolstered security measures put in place by the joint security operatives, stressing that the adequate pre election plans by all stakeholders has had profound impact on Oyo’s democratic evolution.
In his words, “Under Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership, the OYSIEC has been instrumental in conducting free and fair local government elections, ensuring the democratic rights of the citizens are upheld.”
‘Ijaya’ lauded the commission’s transparency and commitment to deepening democratic values, which have led to increased public confidence in the electoral process.
“Let me also state very clearly here that the heightened focus on security initiatives by Governor Makinde’s administration has significantly contributed to the maintenance of peace and stability across the state.
” Oyo state under the visionary leadership of Governor Makinde has taken a clear lead in the conduct of free, fair, credible, and transparent local government election in Nigeria having done so within the space of five years, the first of its kind in Oyo state.
“Through strategic collaborations with security agencies and the implementation of innovative security measures, incidents of crime have been notably reduced, creating an environment conducive to democratic participation and socio-economic development.” The Commissioner added.
