The Oyo State Office of Interfaith Affairs has expressed its condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde over the death of his elder brother, Engineer Sunday Makinde, who passed away at the early hour of Friday, January 24.
In a statement on forwarded to westerirror.com.ng, the Special Assistant on Interfaith Affairs to Governor Makinde, Reverend Femi Ibikunle, described the late Engr. Sunday Makinde as a pillar of strength and an exemplary figure who contributed immensely to the values of unity and peace within the Aigbofa and Makinde family.
He noted that even though there was no better time to lose a loved one, it was important to take solace in the ultimate will of God and the legacies the deceased left behind.
“We at the Interfaith office,and by extension, the inter religious umbrella in Oyo state, express our deepest sympathies to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the entire Makinde family for the loss of their loved one and particularly, during this challenging time.
“The loss of a loved one, especially a sibling, is a profound moment that brings both pain and reflection, and we join them to share in their grief.
It is our prayer that God strengthens the family and particularly the Governor,on whose shoulders the destiny of Oyo state and her people lies. ” the statement read.
The Interfaith Affairs Office praised Governor Makinde for his resilience and commitment to the well-being of Oyo State, even amid personal loss.
It called for prayers across all religious divides for the governor and his family, urging faith communities including Christians, Muslims, and African Tradition worshipers, to stand in solidarity with them.
The late Engr. Sunday Makinde was known for his humility and strong advocacy for unity, peace, and the development of Ibadanland.
The Oyo Interfaith Affairs Office further encouraged the people of the state to honor the memory of the deceased by promoting unity and cooperation, which he was known to exemplify.
“This loss is undoubtedly a significant moment of grief for the governor and his family, as well as for the people of Oyo State, who continue to support him in his leadership journey, and as his political disciples, we will continue to pray and intercede for the first family in the state in our private and official capacities,” the statement concluded.
