Governor Dauda Lawal Dare of Zamfara State has assured that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will emerge stronger despite its ongoing crisis, reaffirming the party’s decision to back Rt. Hon. SKE Ude-Okoye.
Speaking in Ibadan on Sunday during a condolence visit to Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Lawal emphasized that internal conflicts are normal in politics and that the party’s recent governors’ meeting in Delta State demonstrated efforts to rebuild and reposition PDP as Nigeria’s leading political force.
“In politics, there are always issues, but what happened in Delta shows we are making waves and reconnecting with the people,” Lawal said. “We, the governors, are the leaders of this party, and our decisions will shape its future.”
Lawal dismissed concerns about the party’s internal struggles, insisting that they were part of a learning process that would ultimately strengthen the PDP.
Meanwhile, Governor Makinde received several high-profile visitors, including African Development Bank (AfDB) President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, Minister of Livestock Development Dr. Idi Maiha, and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, all of whom came to offer condolences following the passing of his older brother, Engr. Sunday Makinde.
Dr. Adesina expressed deep sympathy, stating, “He passed away at such a young age. I pray that God gives the governor the strength to bear this tragic loss.”
Similarly, NFF President Gusau reassured Governor Makinde of his support, acknowledging Makinde’s contributions to both Oyo State and Nigeria.
He also hinted at upcoming collaborations with the Federal Ministry of Education to restore grassroots football tournaments.
As the PDP navigates its internal challenges, Governor Lawal remains optimistic that the party will emerge more united and ready to lead Nigeria’s future.
