Africa’s richest man and Chairman of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, will deliver the keynote address at the 9th Anniversary Lecture and Award Ceremony of the South West Guild of Online Publishers (SWEGOP).
The event has been scheduled to hold on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
The ceremony will bring together leading voices in media, governance, and industry, according to a statement jointly signed by SWEGOP Chairman, Mr. Bisi Oladele, and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Remi Oladoye.
Highlighting the significance of the occasion, the statement noted that this year’s anniversary theme reflects the Guild’s dedication to strengthening digital journalism as a force for good governance and national development.
Also billed to speak is Professor Adeolu Akande, former Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), who will serve as the Guest Lecturer for the day.
As part of the ceremony, SWEGOP will honour select individuals and institutions whose impact in journalism, public service, and national advancement has been outstanding.
Among the 2025 honorees are Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Oyo State, Mogaji Wole Arisekola, businessman and media entrepreneur, and Dr. Babatunde Olomu, Customs Area Controller, Apapa Port Command, Nigeria Customs Service.
Describing the anniversary lecture and award ceremony as one of SWEGOP’s flagship annual events, the Guild reiterated its commitment to supporting media innovation and integrity in Nigeria’s democratic process.
“SWEGOP, ith our online media platforms, remains focused on highlighting the evolving role of digital media in advancing transparency, accountability, and democratic engagement in Nigeria,” the statement read.
