A former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Chukwu, who served as deputy to former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu from May 2015 to May 2023, announced his resignation in a letter dated August 5, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of Ndi Elu Ward, Nkporo, Ohafia Local Government Area.
Citing “personal reasons” for his decision, Chukwu expressed appreciation to the PDP for its support over the years and wished the party success in its future endeavours.
“I write to inform you of my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately.
“You may wish to note that I am resigning due to personal reasons. While it was a difficult decision to make, it is the best course of action for me at this time,” the letter partly read.
Chukwu’s resignation comes shortly after his visit to the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti. During the visit, he was reported to have refrained from openly declaring that Otti had secured re-election prospects for 2027.
Following the visit, Chukwu was reportedly removed from all Abia PDP stakeholders’ groups in the state.
