Comrade Ayobami Adeogun has been sworn in for a second term as the President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Oyo state chapter.
Other elected officers of the union have also been inaugurated to steer the affairs of the body for a period of four years.
Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara, Nigeria’s President General of NULGE, conducted the official swearing in of Adeogun and his other newly state executive officers.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on Monday, August 25, at the State NULGE Secretariat, M.K.O. Abiola Way, Challenge, Ibadan, drew union veterans, state officers, branch chairmen, stakeholders, and members from across the 33 Local Government Areas and 35 Local Council Development Areas of the state.
Recall that Adeogun was reelected on August 7 in a landslide victory to earn him another term of four years as the president of the union.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Adeogun expressed gratitude to Almighty God and to the union members for reposing confidence in his leadership. He described his re-election as a “collective victory” for the entire workforce of the local government service in Oyo State.
“You stood firmly, you spoke loudly, and you voted courageously to re-affirm your confidence in our leadership. This victory is not for me alone; it belongs to all of us,” Adeogun said.
Reflecting on his first tenure, Adeogun highlighted key achievements, including improved welfare packages for members, stronger advocacy for local government autonomy, and the consolidation of unity and peace within the union.
He noted that NULGE Oyo has become “a force respected and reckoned with” among trade unions in the state and across the country.
He emphasized that despite the successes recorded, much remains to be done, pledging to deepen the union’s advocacy and prioritize the welfare of members.
“We shall continue to stand in the gap to protect the interest and welfare of our members. We shall continue to be the voice of the voiceless and ensure that the dignity of labour is upheld in the local government system,” he pledged.
Adeogun also called for unity among members, urging them to close ranks, bury differences, and work collectively for the progress of the union.
He announced plans for a “Thank-You Tour” across all zones of the state to personally appreciate members for their overwhelming support during the election.
Reassuring the workforce of his commitment, Adeogun said: “We shall not betray your trust. We shall not disappoint you. With God on our side, and with your continued support and prayers, we shall take our Union to even greater heights.”
The event was largely characterized by cheers and solidarity songs from NULGE members as a show of the union’s resilience and renewed hope under Adeogun’s leadership.
