The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).
Hundeyin, who until now served as the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, takes over from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who has held the position since 2021.
According to a statement issued by Adejobi on Thursday, September 4, 2025, the appointment takes immediate effect.
CSP Hundeyin brings with him extensive professional and academic experience in law enforcement and public communication.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan. He also obtained a Certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre, Jaji, Kaduna State.
His professional affiliations include membership as an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), a Member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).
Hundeyin has served in different capacities within the Nigeria Police Force. He was Police Public Relations Officer at Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, and later worked as Administration Officer at the Force Public Relations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
In 2020, he was part of Nigeria’s contingent to the United Nations-African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), Sudan, contributing to international peacekeeping operations.
As spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Hundeyin became a familiar face, regularly engaging with the media and the public, particularly during sensitive incidents involving crime, protests, and law enforcement activities.
While approving the appointment, IGP Egbetokun tasked Hundeyin to leverage his background in communications and security to strengthen the Police Force’s public relations strategy, rebuild public trust, and ensure effective information flow between the police and citizens.
“The Inspector-General has charged him to bolster the Force Public Relations activities and ensure continuous positive relations with the public,” the statement read.
Outgoing spokesman, DCP Adejobi, expressed confidence in his successor, describing him as a capable officer well-prepared for the responsibilities of the office, while wishing him success in his new role.
