The National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is fully satisfied with preparations in Ibadan, Oyo State, ahead of the party’s elective national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025.
Chairman of the committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, made this known after leading his team on an inspection tour of key facilities in the city on Wednesday.
“We are fully ready for the convention coming up in November,” Fintiri said after inspecting the main venue at the Adamasingba Stadium.
“We came to have an on-the-spot assessment of the facilities, and I must say, what we’ve seen is quite impressive.
“The Oyo State Government and the local organizing team have done a great job. At this point, it’s just about dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s. We’re good to go.”
The inspection covered several sites, including the expanded Ibadan Airport runway, rehabilitated convention routes, the Adamasingba Stadium, and accommodation facilities across the city.
Fintiri explained that the visit was part of efforts to ensure logistics, security, and welfare plans are in top shape before the convention.
Beyond logistics, political attention has lately been fixed on the wave of defections from the PDP to the ruling party, particularly recently by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri and his Enugu counterpart, Peter Mba.
When asked if these exits might rattle the opposition or dampen enthusiasm ahead of the convention, Fintiri brushed off the concern.
“The PDP is not built around individuals. It is an institution with deep roots and strong values. People may leave, but the party remains. We’re still very formidable, and our eyes are on the bigger goal — 2027.”
He described the upcoming convention as a turning point for the PDP, one that will consolidate internal reforms and usher in leadership capable of repositioning the party for national relevance.
The committee’s delegation included Deputy Chairman, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), Secretary, Senator Ben Obi, and other senior party figures.
Their inspection comes after a series of coordination meetings with host governor Seyi Makinde and subcommittees working on logistics, accreditation, and security.
Fintiri reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to delivering a transparent and inclusive convention.
“What we’re doing here is beyond 2025. We’re setting the tone for a renewed PDP, one that Nigerians can trust again.”
