The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has directed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to go ahead with its much-anticipated national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025.

Delivering the ruling on Monday, Justice Ladiran Akintola gave the order while considering an ex parte motion filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi, the claimant in suit number I/1336/2025.

Those listed as defendants include the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum (on behalf of the party’s National Working Committee and National Executive Committee), the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (for himself and members of the National Convention Organising Committee), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In his ruling, Justice Akintola granted all the interim reliefs sought by the claimant, restraining the defendants or their agents from taking any action that could disrupt or obstruct the conduct of the planned convention.

The judge also instructed the PDP leadership to comply strictly with the timetable and guidelines earlier released for the exercise.

The court further ordered that the convention be held as scheduled in Ibadan and directed INEC to attend, monitor, and observe proceedings in accordance with the Electoral Act.

Justice Akintola noted that the claimant had presented a case deserving of urgent judicial attention and praised the move to also file a motion on notice alongside the ex parte application, describing it as a mark of transparency.

The case has been adjourned to November 10, 2025, for hearing of the motion on notice.

The certified true copy of the court’s order, signed by Mrs. S. O. Hammed, Principal Registrar of the Oyo State High Court, was issued in Ibadan under the court’s seal on November 3, 2025.

Responding to the Court order, the Oyo state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Michael Ogunsina, lauded the development saying “all road now leads to the national Congress.”

Speaking further, Ogunsina said: “We are going with a national convention. The court has spoken.

“The PDP is ready for the convention. The judge has done what is right and what is proper. The PDP is okay with it and we are going ahead with the convention.”
