Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has urged real estate developers and investors to take advantage of the State’s rapidly expanding infrastructure to drive sustainable growth in the housing and property sector.
He made this call while delivering his keynote address at the second edition of the Oyo State Real Estate Conference held at the Jogor Centre, Ibadan. Themed “Real Estate and Economic Development in Oyo State: Strategies for Success,” the event gathered government officials, policymakers, developers, investors, and industry professionals to explore strategies for deepening real estate’s role in economic development.
Ogundoyin said Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has laid a strong foundation for the sector through deliberate investments in infrastructure ranging from road networks and intercity connectivity to energy and digital projects.
These developments, according to him, have opened new frontiers for property growth across both urban and semi-urban communities.
“Across Oyo State, you will find new roads linking once-isolated communities, industrial corridors springing up, and improved power and digital connectivity. These are indicators of a forward-looking economy—and smart investors should plug into this,” he said.
He stressed that real estate extends beyond erecting buildings, describing it as a vehicle for community growth, job creation, and long-term wealth generation.
The Speaker assured stakeholders of the government’s readiness to strengthen partnerships with the private sector and provide legislative backing to sustain a conducive business environment.
Ogundoyin also emphasized the importance of effective legislation in regulating the real estate sector. He disclosed that the Oyo State House of Assembly has passed and is currently working on several laws aimed at protecting land ownership rights, reducing bottlenecks, and curbing land-related disputes.
He further highlighted government efforts to tackle land grabbing and ensure transparency in land administration.
The Speaker noted that the State has enhanced its real estate regulatory framework and is committed to enforcing stricter penalties against illegal developers and fraudulent agents.
Acknowledging public concerns over the activities of unregistered real estate practitioners, Ogundoyin reminded participants that the Assembly had earlier passed a motion calling on the Executive and the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development to strengthen oversight.
He said it was now time for those regulations to be fully implemented to restore order and credibility to the sector.
The conference also featured panel discussions and networking sessions where stakeholders shared insights and explored potential collaborations. Participants commended the State Government’s sustained commitment to infrastructure development and lauded the Speaker’s proactive engagement with the sector.
