Hon. Samuel Ademola Adejumobi, the Oke-Ogun political figure widely known as Agbarajesupo or Agbarapo, has dragged the former vice chairman of Atisbo Local Government, Hon. John Ogunrinde, to court.
He is seeking twenty million naira in damages over what he described as a deliberate and malicious campaign aimed at wrecking his reputation and undermining his political ambitions.
The suit follows a viral Facebook video published on November 6, 2025, in which Ogunrinde levelled a string of accusations against him.
According to an earlier report by Westernmirror.com.ng, Agbarapo had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum demanding a retraction and an unreserved public apology. The ultimatum expired without compliance, which prompted the legal action.
Recall that the controversy began with Ogunrinde’s claims, delivered entirely in Yoruba, accusing Agbarapo of ritual practices and financial impropriety.
He alleged that Agbarapo used his younger sister, a prophetess named Doyin, for ritual purposes to extort money from the late former Oyo State governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala.
He also accused Agbarapo of bringing armed thugs from Ibadan to disrupt an empowerment programme at First Baptist Church, Irawo-Ile in Atisbo, saying the hoodlums carted away the empowerment materials and returned same to where he (Agbarapo) had rented them to deceive members of his local government.
In the same video, he claimed Agbarapo had defrauded a political aspirant named Hon. Sola Otunla of millions during a previous local government election cycle.
The comments, which Ogunrinde said were a reaction to an earlier publication attributed to Agbarapo, sparked quick outrage.
Agbarapo described the contents of the video as deeply inflammatory and damaging to a reputation he has spent decades to build.
A petition by Agbaje, Agbaje & Co., counsel to Adejumobi and obtained by westernmirror.com.ng on Monday, November 17, reiterated that the allegations were baseless.
The letter, issued to Ogunrinde, stated that the claims were fabricated with the intention of inflicting maximum political harm.
The petition further explained that Ogunrinde accused Adejumobi of staging a fraudulent empowerment programme at First Baptist Church, Irawo-Ile, by renting equipment and hiring thugs from Ibadan.
He was also said to have accused Agbarapo of exploiting political associate Sola Otunla by taking millions of naira under the guise of campaign support.
The allegation that Agbarapo used a spiritual talisman in an attempt to obtain money from the late Governor Alao-Akala was also described by the legal team as a blatant falsehood crafted to stir public anger.
According to the petition, the statements were not mere remarks but were made with malice, intention and careful timing, especially as Agbarapo is expected to enter the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State.
The counsel argued that the accusations formed part of a calculated plan to weaken his credibility ahead of the next political season.
The petition also highlighted Agbarapo’s long public service record, describing him as one of Oke-Ogun’s most respected politicians.
His public roles according to the petition include serving as Supervisor for Works and Transport in Atisbo Local Government from 1999 to 2002, a member of the Oyo State Tourism Board from 2011 to 2014, a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Majority Leader of the Assembly from 2008 to 2011, and currently Special Adviser on Legislative Matters to Governor Seyi Makinde, a position he has held since 2019.
The legal team insisted that the viral video inflicted severe reputational harm on a figure whose political identity was built over many years.
The lawsuit also cautioned Ogunrinde against treating the petition lightly, hinting that additional legal steps may follow should he fail to comply.
As at press time, Hon. Ogunrinde has not responded publicly to the lawsuit.
