Comrade Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, has been reelected as the chairman of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUCN), Oyo state Council for another four years term.
Olabiyi-Agoro emerged unopposed as the winner of the congress which held today at the International Conference Centre (ICC), University of Ibadan.
Delegates from across Oyo State filed in for the First Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Oyo State Council, and before long it became clear that the centre of attention was Comrade Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro.
He was returned as chairman for another four-year term, unopposed. The announcement drew wide applause rather than surprise.
Many delegates said his reelection felt like a natural continuation of the work he started in his first tenure.
The conference, which focused on the theme: The Impact of Inflation on Workers Wages and Living Standards in Nigeria: Intervention Point of Labour Movement and Government, provided a fitting backdrop for his reelection.
Conversations at the Congress revolved around shrinking purchasing power, rising household pressures and the slow grind workers face every month. It felt like a collective sigh mixed with a resolve to keep pushing for better outcomes.
Guest Lecturer at the event, Professor Omotoye Olorode, in his address, stressed that inflation has reached a point where ordinary workers are recalibrating their lives almost weekly.
He argued that labour’s role now goes beyond agitation and must include deeper collaboration with government on policy responses that can actually hold up under real economic strain.
Olabiyi-Agoro, in his remarks, hinted at a more assertive council under his renewed leadership.
He spoke about the urgency of stabilising wages, strengthening social protection and ensuring that labour’s voice does not fade under the noise of national politics.
He described the new mandate as both an honour and a heavier responsibility assuring that he will not let the union down on the confidence reposed in him.
Participants at the Congress stated that the chairman’s reelection has already signaled continuity, but noted that “the theme of the conference reminded everyone that the real work lies ahead, in a landscape where workers are struggling to stay afloat and the labour movement is expected to chart a clear path forward.”
