The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has described the installation of Barrister Seyi Tinubu as the Òkanlòmọ of Yorubaland as a call to higher service and leadership.
Ogundoyin, in a congratulatory message, lauded the conferment of the traditional title on Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying it reflects a growing sense of responsibility and expectation from the Yoruba people.
Seyi Tinubu was officially installed as the Òkanlòmọ of Yorubaland on Sunday, December 21, 2025, by the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, during a colourful ceremony at the Alaafin’s Palace in Oyo Town.
According to the Speaker, the honour goes beyond pageantry and recognition, noting that traditional titles in Yorubaland are historically tied to service, character, and leadership.
He described the installation as a recognition of Seyi Tinubu’s rising public profile, his engagement with young people, and his philanthropic initiatives across different communities.
“This is not just a traditional title; it is a call to service and a recognition of leadership potential,” Ogundoyin said. “I congratulate my dear friend, Barrister Seyi Tinubu, on his installation as the Òkanlòmọ of Yorubaland.
The honour reflects his commitment to values that resonate deeply with the Yoruba people, excellence, community, and legacy.”
Ogundoyin also commended the Alaafin of Oyo for his continued role in preserving Yoruba culture and strengthening traditional institutions through the conferment of titles on individuals considered worthy of such responsibilities.
He urged Seyi Tinubu to leverage his new status to advance unity among the Yoruba people, promote cultural pride, and support initiatives focused on youth development and sustainable progress across Yorubaland.
The installation ceremony attracted an array of traditional rulers, political leaders, cultural figures, and other dignitaries from across the country and the diaspora.
