Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has told residents of the state to prepare for what he described as “Omituntun 3.0” ahead of the 2027 general elections, assuring that the pace of development and people-focused governance his administration is known for will not be interrupted.
Makinde, who spoke at the 2025 Oyo Mega Praise, an annual end of the year Christmas worship in Ibadan, said the Omituntun agenda has steadily repositioned Oyo State and earned it recognition beyond the South West, placing it among states setting the pace in governance across the country.
He reflected on what he called deliberate, sector by sector interventions that have reshaped the state’s economy and public institutions.
According to the governor, his administration has made measurable progress in across all sectors, noting that all the achievements combined have improved the quality of life of residents.
He said the reforms were driven by a clear vision to build strong institutions rather than pursue short-term political gains, adding that Oyo State is now better positioned for sustainable growth than it was before 2019.
Makinde, however, clarified that he would not be on the ballot as a governorship candidate in 2027, having served his constitutionally allowed terms.
Despite this, he assured residents that the ideals of good governance, accountability and inclusive development would continue.
“I may not be contesting again, but I will not abandon the people. I will support a successor who understands the Omituntun philosophy and is committed to ensuring that the masses continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.”
The governor stressed that continuity, rather than personality, should be the focus, urging residents to remain vigilant and engaged in the political process to safeguard the gains already recorded.
He reiterated his belief that leadership is a trust, adding that his responsibility extends beyond his tenure to ensuring that the foundation laid over the years is protected and strengthened for future generations.
