The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Legislative Matters, Hon. Samuel Adejumobi, popularly known as Agbarapo, has described the dismissal of the suit filed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu against the Independent National Electoral Commission and others as a timely opening for genuine reconciliation and internal healing within the Peoples Democratic Party.
Agbarapo made this known in a statement yesterday, following the ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja which dismissed the suit on the grounds that it had been overtaken by events due to the expiration of the claimant’s tenure as National Secretary of the party.
According to him, the judgment has brought much-needed clarity to an issue that had lingered longer than necessary and had continued to strain internal cohesion within the PDP.
“The ruling of the court has put to rest a matter that had clearly outlived its relevance. The court rightly held that the suit was overtaken by events following the expiration of the claimant’s tenure.
“This decision has reinforced respect for due process and institutional order within the party,” Agbarapo said.
He noted that beyond its legal implications, the judgment serves as a moral and political reminder to party leaders and members that internal democracy, adherence to the party constitution, and respect for established procedures must always take precedence over personal interests.
“The decision of the court is a clear reminder that personal ambitions must give way to the collective good of the party. This is the time for genuine reconciliation, healing, and unity within the PDP,” he added.
Agbarapo further stated that Governor Seyi Makinde has consistently maintained that strict adherence to the PDP constitution, internal dispute-resolution mechanisms, and respect for judicial pronouncements remain the most reliable pathway to lasting stability and cohesion within the party.
He declared that the PDP in Oyo state remains the party to beat describing what he called the ‘Seyi Makinde’s good governance’ as the source of strength for the party to go into any future elections with convincing wins.
He urged all aggrieved parties to accept the court’s ruling in good faith and channel their energies towards rebuilding trust, strengthening internal structures, and repositioning the party ahead of future political engagements.
According to the adviser, prolonged internal disputes only serve to weaken the PDP and distract it from its core responsibility of providing a credible and effective alternative for governance to Nigerians.
“When internal disagreements are allowed to fester, the party loses focus and momentum. This is not the time for division, but for sober reflection and collective action,” he said.
Agbarapo also called on PDP members across the country to respect existing court decisions and party structures, stressing that unity, discipline, and mutual respect are non-negotiable pillars for the party’s progress.
He noted that the PDP, as the only opposition party with functional political structures across the 774 local government areas of the country, carries a historic responsibility to meet the expectations of Nigerians, particularly as the nation looks ahead to the 2027 general election.
“The expectations on the PDP are enormous. Nigerians are looking to the party as a credible platform capable of rescuing the nation from its current challenges. This is another opportunity for us to get it right,” he said.
Agbarapo warned that the party cannot afford to dash the hopes of the masses at a time when citizens are grappling with multifaceted socio-economic challenges under the current All Progressives Congress-led administration.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Makinde and the Oyo State chapter of the PDP to peace, inclusiveness, and the rule of law, expressing confidence that the party would emerge stronger, more united, and more focused from its present challenges.
“With sincerity, discipline, collective resolve, and genuineness of purpose, the PDP is poised to come out of this phase stronger and reassert itself as a party ready to continue to serve the Nigerian people,” he said.
