SAO Petroleum has commended the Oyo State Government and emergency responders for their swift and coordinated intervention that prevented loss of lives during a fire incident at one of its retail outlets in Jericho, Ibadan.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, January 25, 2026, affected the company’s filling station in the Jericho area of the Oyo State capital.
Although the fire led to material losses running into millions of naira, no life was however, lost.
In a statement signed by its Managing Director, Adewumi Oladiti, SAO Petroleum expressed deep appreciation to the Oyo State Government, the host community, and emergency agencies for their prompt response and support during the incident.
The company specifically acknowledged the efforts of the Federal and State Fire Services, the Nigerian Police Force, Oyo State Command, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Amotekun Security Network, and other security outfits for their professionalism and commitment in containing the fire.
The Petroleum company also expressed gratitude to corporate institutions and organisations, including the Central Bank of Nigeria, SweetCo and Zartec, as well as customers, volunteers and good samaritans who assisted in managing the situation and offering support.
“Though we are deeply saddened by the losses, we are thankful that no lives were lost,” the statement said.
The statement noted further that the collective effort of responders and members of the public helped to prevent the incident from escalating.
The company further appreciated members of the public who volunteered their time and resources to help contain the raging fire and provide assistance in the aftermath, describing the show of solidarity as deeply reassuring during a challenging period.
Reaffirming its commitment to customers, SAO Petroleum stated that the incident would not in any way affect its dedication to quality service delivery.
“Despite this unfortunate incident, we assure our esteemed customers that this would in no way hinder our commitment to giving our very best at all times,” the statement read.
The company added that as the year progresses, the continued loyalty and support of its customers would serve as motivation to improve its operations and service standards across all outlets.
SAO Petroleum reiterated its resolve to uphold safety, reliability and excellence in its operations, while working closely with relevant authorities to prevent future occurrences.
