The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into an alleged case of sexual abuse involving a six-year-old girl in Ibadan.
In a statement by the State Police Public Relation Officers, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on Sunday, the Command said the incident was reported to have occurred in December 2025 at the Onikeke, Ayegun area of the state capital.
The minor was allegedly subjected to indecent acts on different occasions while in the area.
A 65-year-old man, according to the police has been arrested in connection with the case.
The Police stated that the suspect admitted to acts of indecent assault during interrogation but denied engaging in sexual intercourse with the child.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegation.
Following the report, the victim was immediately taken to a medical facility for examination and provided with appropriate socio-psychological support.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, has directed that the case be transferred to the Command’s Gender Desk for further investigation.
“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the public that its operatives are currently investigating a distressing case of attempted defilement involving a six-year-old girl in Ibadan.
“According to the report, the victim was allegedly coerced and indecently assaulted multiple times throughout December 2025 while she was hawking at Onikeke, Ayegun area, Ibadan.
“The alleged perpetrator, identified as 65-year-old Ibrahim Raheem, has been apprehended and has since confessed to indecently abusing the child, though he denied engaging in carnal knowledge.
“Following the discovery of these acts, the victim was immediately taken to a hospital for comprehensive medical examination and socio-psychological care to address the trauma of the ordeal,” the police statement reads in part.
The Police said the move was to ensure the matter is handled with the required professionalism, sensitivity, and confidentiality associated with cases involving minors.
The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of children and other vulnerable persons, assuring the public that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Command also urged members of the public to report suspected cases of abuse and other crimes to security agencies promptly.
