The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the suspected murder of a 62-year-old woman at Ori-Apata Oderemi area of Ido, Ibadan.
According to a statement on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the incident was reported by a good Samaritan who discovered the lifeless body of the woman along a bush path within the community.
Police detectives who visited the scene found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her neck.
Police preliminary findings indicated that the body may have been at the location for about seven days before it was discovered.
The remains were evacuated to the morgue at Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy and post mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The police said the scene was immediately cordoned off while forensic experts processed it for evidence.
The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
Preliminary investigation led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Muhammed Sanusi, 42, and Ogbu James Ajah, 40, both residents of Ori-Apata area in Ido.
The suspects are currently in custody at the State CID and are assisting investigators, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other possible accomplices.
The development initially sparked protests by aggrieved family members and sympathisers within the community.
However, calm was restored following the intervention of the Divisional Police Officer, Ido Division, in collaboration with the Local Government Chairman, who appealed to residents not to take the law into their hands.
To forestall breakdown of law and order, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders, commenced joint patrols across the affected community and adjoining areas.
Tactical teams and operational assets have also been deployed to strengthen visibility policing and reassure residents.
Westernmirror.com.ng reports that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, alongside a delegation of the Oyo State Government, visited the community to assess the situation and commiserate with the bereaved family.
He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate sustained deployments to maintain peace in the area.
The Command also acknowledged the support of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his continued strategic guidance.
Reassuring the public, the Police said no effort would be spared in ensuring that all those connected with the crime are brought to justice.
Residents were urged to remain calm, law abiding, and to provide credible information to assist ongoing investigations.
