The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in two separate intelligence driven operations in Oyo and Ibadan, recovering a suspected human part, toy pistols and illicit substances.
In two separate statements on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the arrest of the suspect in Oyo town for unlawful possession of an item suspected to be a human body part.
He said, “On 20th February, 2026 at about 8.00 a.m., the suspect, who disguised as a scavenger at the Commercial Oroki area of Oyo, was strongly suspected by vigilant members of the community due to his strange movements and conduct.”
Olayinka explained that concerned residents carried out a search which led to a disturbing discovery.
“A cut lower right leg suspected to be a human part was discovered inside a large sack containing waste plastic bottles in his possession,” he said.
According to him, a joint patrol team swiftly intervened when tension rose at the scene.
“Upon receipt of the report, a Police joint patrol team, in collaboration with other security partners, rushed to the scene where an angry mob had gathered with intent to lynch the suspect.
“The team professionally dispersed the mob and rescued the suspect from imminent harm, while the suspected human part was recovered as exhibit for forensic and investigative purposes,” the police spokesman added.
He disclosed that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a separate operation in Ibadan, the Command arrested two suspected armed robbers, Elijah Teejay and Ottu Emmanuel following credible intelligence from residents about criminal activities along Elebu-Oja, off Alao-Akala Expressway.
“Acting promptly on the information, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud Unit embarked on a targeted surveillance patrol in the area,” Olayinka stated.
“During the patrol, the two suspects were arrested and a search conducted on them led to the recovery of two toy pistols and some illicit drugs.”
He disclosed that the suspects admitted to multiple robberies saying: “Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to several acts of robbery along the aforementioned axis and other locations within and outside Oyo State.
“Their arrest represents a critical step towards disrupting this criminal network and restoring public confidence.”
The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, directed that the suspects be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations. He commended residents for their vigilance and cooperation with security agencies.
The Command also appreciated the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for what it described as “unwavering support, strategic leadership and commitment to strengthening intelligence led policing across the nation.”
While urging members of the public to remain security conscious and continue providing actionable intelligence, Olayinka cautioned against mob action.
“Members of the public are strongly advised not to take laws into their hands. Such acts are unlawful and capable of obstructing justice,” he said.
The Command assured residents that criminal elements would find no safe haven in the state and promised further updates as investigations progress.
