The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State chapter, has congratulated women across the country as they join the global community to commemorate the International Women’s Day 2026.
This was as the organization called for stronger commitment to gender equality and leadership inclusion.
In a jointly signed statement on Sunday by the state Chairperson, Omolola Alamu, and Secretary, Eniola Adeaga, the association praised the resilience, industry and contributions of Nigerian women to national development.
The group noted that this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” which emphasises accelerating progress through economic empowerment, reflects the everyday realities of Nigerian women who continue to contribute significantly to economic and social growth.
According to the statement, women across sectors such as agriculture, technology, governance and the informal economy remain critical drivers of development in the country.
“Oyo NAWOJ celebrates the trailblazing women who continue to serve as the backbone of the state’s economy,” the association said.
It also highlighted the determination and resilience of women in different fields of careers.
The association described the Nigerian woman as a symbol of strength and perseverance, noting that women in Oyo State are breaking barriers and redefining leadership across various sectors.
“In Oyo State, from the vibrant markets of Dugbe to emerging technology hubs in Bodija, women are demonstrating resilience and innovation.
“While we celebrate how far women have come, we must also insist on a seat at every table where the future of our nation is being decided,” the statement added.
NAWOJ also commended female journalists for their dedication to amplifying the voices of marginalised groups and promoting accountability through the media.
“As women mark this milestone, Oyo NAWOJ remains committed to using the power of the pen to advocate for the rights, dignity and advancement of women,” the statement said.
The association urged stakeholders across government, private sector and civil society to intensify efforts toward achieving gender equality and creating more opportunities for women in leadership and decision-making positions.
