As political activities gather pace ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in Oyo State, a community development advocate, Akinloluwa Akinbode, has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government.
Akinbode made his declaration on Sunday, March 29, 2026, during a press briefing with journalists in Ibadan, where he outlined his vision for continuity, institutional strengthening and responsive governance at the grassroots level.
Positioning his ambition within what he described as a growing demand for competent and value-driven leadership, Akinbode said his decision to join the race was both a civic obligation and a strategic response to calls from stakeholders across the local government.
According to him, his aspiration is anchored on a service-driven philosophy that prioritises administrative efficiency, participatory governance and sustainable community development.
In his words: “This aspiration represents a call to duty, it reflects the expectations of our people for a credible leadership alternative that can consolidate on the achievements of the current administration while advancing a more structured and inclusive governance framework.”
He further emphasised his commitment to accountability, policy responsiveness and improved institutional performance, noting that effective grassroots governance must be built on transparency and measurable outcomes.
The chairmanship hopeful also stated that his declaration aligns with the electoral guidelines of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, which recently opened the campaign window for the council polls.
Providing background to his political journey, Akinbode, a native of Owobale village in Ward 3 of Egbeda Local Government, highlighted his longstanding involvement in political mobilisation and community development initiatives.
He noted that these experiences have shaped his governance outlook and prepared him for leadership.
He also acknowledged the influence of Seyi Makinde and Sikiru Oyedele Sanda, whose leadership styles, he said, have informed his policy direction and commitment to results-oriented governance.
Akinbode appealed to party leaders, stakeholders and residents of Egbeda Local Government for support, stressing the importance of collective effort in achieving sustainable development.
“With unity of purpose and shared responsibility, we can build a local government that works effectively for all,” he added.
