A former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Bisi Olopoeyan, has declared his intention to align politically with Governor Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Olopoeyan made the disclosure during an interview on “Bosenlo,” a radio programme hosted by Temitayo Oyeladun on Lagelu 96.7 FM in Ibadan.
He revealed that consultations are already in progress, expressing his readiness to work with Makinde irrespective of the political platform the governor may adopt for the next electoral cycle.
This was as the politician ruled out any possibility of joining or working with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
He stated that both he and his supporters across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State are prepared to follow the governor to any political party should he decide to exit the PDP.
Expressing confidence in Makinde’s political influence, Olopoeyan said the governor possesses the capacity to shape the outcome of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo state, including determining his successor, even outside the PDP.
He noted that Makinde’s established political structure and grassroots support would be instrumental in securing victory for candidates aligned with him.
On the opposition, Olopoeyan argued that internal challenges within the All Progressives Congress (APC) could work in Makinde’s favour, particularly if the party presents what he described as a weak governorship candidate.
He also addressed the leadership crisis within the PDP in Oyo State, criticising the faction led by Alhaji Azeem Gbolarunmi.
Olopoeyan described the situation as regrettable, accusing Gbolarunmi of pursuing personal political ambitions while laying claim to the party’s leadership structure.
Furthermore, he alleged that the PDP in the state has been influenced by interests linked to former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, noting that internal disputes and competing ambitions have contributed to the party’s ongoing divisions.
