The founder of the One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji, has defended Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, describing him as a committed advocate for human rights amid calls for his arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Reacting to the controversy over alleged remarks attributed to Igboho, Maharaj Ji said the situation had been overstated, stressing that expressing strong views on national issues should not automatically attract threats of arrest or intimidation.
He maintained that Igboho’s actions should be understood within the context of advocacy rather than incitement.
According to him, democracy thrives where citizens are free to express themselves, warning that any attempt to silence dissenting voices could undermine justice, fairness, and freedom of expression.
He urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid politicising the issue, emphasizing dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
Maharaj Ji also used the opportunity to criticise opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, accusing them of actions and rhetoric he said could deepen divisions and destabilise the country.
He argued that Nigeria must avoid a return to past political crises, noting the need to preserve national unity and democratic stability.
He expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would not direct security agencies to detain Igboho, dismissing such claims as speculation driven by political opponents.
Maharaj Ji further described Tinubu as a leader with a strong grasp of global politics and a commitment to national development.
The spiritual leader called on Nigerians to support the current administration, insisting that the government’s policies are aimed at economic recovery, infrastructure development, and strengthening national cohesion.
He added that, despite challenges, the progress recorded so far should not be ignored.
In a separate message, Maharaj Ji congratulated Tinubu on his 74th birthday, praising his resilience and leadership.
He expressed optimism about the president’s vision, noting that continuity in leadership would help sustain ongoing reforms and promote stability.
He urged Nigerians, particularly youths and students, to remain supportive of the administration and to look beyond what he described as negative narratives, stressing that nation-building requires patience, cooperation, and collective responsibility.
Maharaj Ji called for unity across ethnic and political lines, expressing confidence that with sustained support for the government, Nigeria would achieve lasting peace, stability, and prosperity.
