A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Hon. Samuel Adejumobi popularly known as “Agbarapo,” has showered praises on governor Seyi Makinde and other national leaders of the party for their political resilience.
This was as he expressed strong optimism that the newly constituted National Caretaker Committee of the party under Barrister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, will steer PDP toward stability, unity, and renewed electoral strength ahead of future political contests.
This follows the composition of the party’s national Caretaker committee after the recent Supreme Court’s judgement.
Agbarapo made this disclosure in a statement in Ibadan on Tuesday, where he described the emergence of the caretaker leadership as a timely intervention capable of restoring internal cohesion within the PDP, which has in recent times grappled with protracted leadership disputes at the national level.
Agbarapo noted that the committee’s assignment goes beyond routine administration, stressing that it carries the burden of rebuilding trust among party stakeholders, reconciling aggrieved factions, and laying a solid foundation for a formidable political structure.
According to him, “the PDP has once again demonstrated its resilience as a democratic institution. The constitution of a credible National Caretaker Committee is not just an administrative adjustment; it is a bold step toward repositioning the party for greater efficiency, inclusiveness, and electoral success.”
Recall that the new national caretaker committee emerged after the PDP’s 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, on Monday, where a 13-man Interim National Working Committee saddled with the responsibility of piloting the affairs of the party and to present candidates for the 2027 elections.
Subsequently, Barrister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and Ambassador Taofeeq Arapaja emerged as interim national chairman and secretary respectively, alongside other executive council members.
This appointments, which was as recommended by the Board of Trustees, was necessitated by the Supreme Court judgment which dismissed the appeals and cross appeals last week, effectively making the PDP without leadership.
The governorship, who was a former Majority Leader of Oyo state Assembly and currently the Special Adviser on Legislative Matters to governor Makinde, also hinged his optimism on the recent Supreme Court judgement, which reaffirmed the authority of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) under the leadership of Senator Adolphus Wabara.
He described the ruling as a defining moment that has effectively cleared lingering ambiguities surrounding the party’s leadership structure.
“With the apex court’s pronouncement restoring clarity and legitimacy to the leadership hierarchy of our great party, the road is now clear for genuine reconciliation and strategic rebuilding.
“This development indicates a fresh start for the PDP nationwide, and we’re very optimistic of a strong rebound to its rightful place on national stage,” he said.
Agbarapo further commend Governor, Makinde, for what he described as his unfettered commitment to democratic ideals and principled leadership, particularly in moments of political uncertainty.
He praised Makinde’s “unrelenting fighting spirit” in defending the integrity of democratic institutions, noting that the governor’s stance during the party’s internal crisis reflects courage, foresight, and a deep sense of responsibility to the Nigerian people.
“Governor Makinde has consistently shown that leadership is not about convenience but conviction. His role in safeguarding democratic values within the PDP and beyond is both commendable and inspiring,” he added.
Reaffirming his political alignment, Agbarapo declared full confidence in Makinde’s leadership and vision for Oyo State, pledging to work in harmony with the governor’s development agenda if given the party’s governorship ticket come 2027.
“I remain committed to aligning with the progressive vision that has defined governance in Oyo State under Governor Makinde. The strides recorded across critical sectors are a testament to purposeful leadership, and it is a trajectory that must be sustained and expanded,” he stated.
He also called on party members across the state and the country to rally behind the new leadership structure, emphasizing the need for unity, discipline, and collective resolve in rebuilding the PDP into a stronger opposition force and credible alternative at all levels of governance.
As political realignments continue to gather momentum ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general elections, Agbarapo maintained that the PDP, with its renewed leadership clarity and internal restructuring, is well-positioned to reclaim its dominance and reconnect with the aspirations of Nigerians.
“The task ahead requires sacrifice, sincerity, and strategic engagement. But with the right leadership in place and the support of committed national stakeholders like my principal and governor, the PDP will not only rebound but emerge stronger and more united,” he concluded.
