The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the foiling of an attempted armed robbery operation in Iseyin, with one suspect killed and two others arrested,
The Police also announced the arrest of four suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of a farmer in the Irawọ area of Atisbo the state.
In a statement Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka on Thursday, May 7, the Command disclosed that the attempted robbery occurred around 2:00 a.m. along Saki Road in Iseyin following credible intelligence about an ongoing attack at a residence that had reportedly been targeted in February.
According to the police, detectives were immediately deployed to the scene where it was discovered that about five armed suspects had invaded the residence.
The Command stated that the resident security guard engaged the attackers in a gun duel, leading to the killing of one suspect and the arrest of two others, while other gang members reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries.
Police said exhibits recovered from the scene included a locally made cut-to-size gun, one expended cartridge, one live cartridge, five mobile phones, two power banks and cash suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The Command added that one of the victims of an earlier robbery incident in the area positively identified the suspects as members of the gang that attacked his residence on April 13, 2026.
It noted that investigations had been intensified to determine the suspects’ involvement in other robbery cases within and outside the area, while the case file and exhibits had been transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Command also announced a breakthrough in the abduction of a farmer, Alhaji Quadri Oloriegbẹ, who was kidnapped on April 29, 2026 at Olopoto Village via Abugbudu in the Irawọ area of Oyo State.
Police said the victim was abducted by five armed men who stormed the community, shooting sporadically into the air before whisking him away to an unknown destination.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reportedly ordered a coordinated rescue operation involving Police Tactical Teams, Agbẹkọya operatives, Amotekun Corps, vigilantes and local hunters.
The police said sustained bush-combing operations and intelligence-led surveillance led to the arrest of a suspect, Umaru Bokolo, whose arrest provided useful information that aided the rescue mission.
The victim was eventually freed on May 5, 2026 and subsequently taken for medical evaluation before reuniting with his family.
Further operations, according to the Command, led to the arrest of three additional suspects identified as Zada Abubakar, Husein Rabiu and Abubakar Mohammed in connection with the abduction.
The police said the suspects would be transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police commended the efforts of security personnel and local security outfits involved in both operations, while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
