The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the incumbent Governor of Osun State and candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the state’s governorship election.
INEC’s declaration followed the conclusion of the collation process and the aggregation of results from the state’s 30 local government areas.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, announced the final result on Sunday after the completion of collation from all 30 local government areas of the state.
With the declaration, Adeleke secured another mandate to continue as governor of Osun State, having defeated the APC challenger by a margin of 66,252 votes.
The result brings the keenly contested election to a close following weeks of political campaigns and intense mobilisation by the major parties across the state.
