Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have passed a resounding vote of confidence on Governor Seyi Makinde and the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, dismissing as unfounded the swirling rumors of an impeachment plot in the state.
The resolution followed a plenary session on Tuesday in Ibadan, where lawmakers reaffirmed their support for the executive under Makinde and legislative leadership under Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.
This is coming on the backdrop of the widely reported alleged impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde and rumoured financial inducement of lawmakers.
The Majority Leader of the House, Sanjo Adedoyin representing Ogbomoso South state constituency, moved the motion during the plenary sitting.
The lawmakers in his submissions described the speculation as “baseless, distracting, and politically motivated.”
Moving the motion, Majority Leader of the House noted that the Assembly remained united and committed to its constitutional duties, stressing that there had been no formal communication or move toward impeachment within the chamber.
He described purveyors of the speculation as enemies of the state, commending the House for not succumbing to what he termed ‘evil plot planned to destabilize a performing government of Governor Seyi Makinde “.
“There is no division in this House. We are focused on governance and delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo State through quality representation.
“The rumors making the rounds exist only in the realm of speculation and should be disregarded in its entirety by the public,” he said.
The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mohammed Fadeyi, who seconded the motion,described the state legislature as a ” unified House. ”
While commending Governor Makinde for what he described as steady leadership and people-oriented policies, particularly in infrastructure, education, and health sectors.
Other lawmakers in their submissions added that the existing cooperation between the executive and legislature had contributed significantly to stability and development in the state.
Gbenga Oyekola, this house can not be bought nor used by anybody. Called on those behind such evil plot to desist reaffirming the loyalty of the House to the governor and the leadership of the House under Adebo Ogundoyin.
In a similar vein, the House praised Speaker Ogundoyin for his leadership style, which members said has ensured cohesion, legislative independence, and loyalty to the state’s interests.
A lawmaker representing one of the constituencies remarked that, “The Speaker has continued to demonstrate maturity and commitment to democratic ideals.
Under his leadership, this Assembly has remained focused, disciplined, and aligned with the aspirations of our people.”
The House also urged the public to ignore what it described as “deliberate attempts by mischief-makers” to create tension in the polity, emphasizing that Oyo State remains politically stable.
Reaffirming their collective stance, the lawmakers passed the vote of confidence unanimously, pledging continued support for both the Makinde-led administration and the leadership of the Assembly.
Hon. stated that affirmative declaration by the House should effectively put the speculation to rest and calmed political anxieties in the state as normal legislative business has fully commenced after the break.
In his brief remark, the Speaker said that “in the course of knowing each members personally as members of the legislature, I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about the unity of the house and that it remains uncompromising as speculated.
“Just a word of advice to political actors, they must understand the mandate of the people can not be stolen or suppressed by anybody anywhere.
“We’ve discussed this as a house and I’m saying it publicly, the House has absolute confidence in the leadership of Makinde as evidently proven over the years. We’re partners in progress and we will see out this administration together.
“By God’s grace, in May 2027, we shall celebrate Makinde’s successor under Omititun 3.0 and the state shall continue to enjoy good governance under the Sustainable Development Agenda contained in the economic blueprints of the governor. ”
The House adjourned its sitting to May 12.
