Amid heavy security, PDP National Vice Chairman (North Central), Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, has officially resumed duties at the party’s National Secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, as the factional Acting National Chairman.
He made entry into the national Secretariat on Monday morning in company of other national officials loyal to the minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike.
Abdulrahman’s resumption comes barely a few days after the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) announced sweeping suspensions of key national officers, including the embattled Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, and some of his allies, over what it described as “gross misconduct and anti-party activities.”
In a swift counter-move, another faction loyal to Damagum had dismissed the suspensions as null and void, accusing those behind the decision of acting without constitutional backing.
But for Abdulrahman, his resumption was more than just a symbolic appearance. He walked into the building flanked by loyal NWC members and addressed staff briefly, pledging to restore order and discipline to the once formidable party.
He appealed to aggrieved members to put aside personal interests and focus on rebuilding the party ahead of future elections, insisting that the recent decisions were in line with the party’s constitution.
Westernmirror.com.ng reports that in recent weeks, the PDP has been engulfed in an internal storm of suspensions, counter-suspensions, and power realignments, each move exposing deep fractures between reformists pushing for a new direction and entrenched blocs resistant to change.
