A former Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources in Oyo State and Director-General of the Oyo State Mineral Development Agency, Ọkùnrin Jẹ́jẹ́ Abíódún Òní, has called on residents of the state to embrace sober reflection, unity and prayers as Muslims celebrate this year’s Eid festivities.
Òní is the immediate past Executive Chairman of the Pacesetter Mineral Development Company, where he resigned to pursue his political ambition as a federal legislator in the National Assembly.
He made the appeal in a goodwill message released on Wednesday, where he expressed concerns over the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
He said that while Muslims across the country celebrate Eid, the people of Oriire LG deserve special thoughts and support in view of the painful development that has unsettled families and various communities in the area.
“Today, as we celebrate Eid, we do so with a sober and reflective heart. Our thoughts are with the good people of Oriire Local Government following the recent distressing kidnapping incident,” he said.
The former commissioner equally expressed condolences and solidarity to the affected families, noting that no family should be subjected to such emotional trauma.
“We extend our deepest condolences and solidarity to the affected families. No family should have to endure this pain, and we stand with you in absolute heartweight and unity,” he added.
Òní also commended Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for what he described as relentless efforts to tackle the security challenge and secure the safe return of the abducted victims.
According to him, the governor has demonstrated steady and proactive leadership through continuous interventions aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture.
“We must also acknowledge our Executive Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE, for his tireless, day and night interventions to resolve this crisis.
“We see the heavy lifting being done by the governor and his entire administration to ensure our security apparatus functions effectively and, most importantly, to bring our kids back home safely.
“Thank you, Your Excellency, for this steady leadership,” Òní stated.
He further prayed for peace, safety and divine intervention across the state, urging residents not to lose hope despite the security concerns.
“May Almighty Allah look upon our state with mercy this Eid. May He protect our children, guide our leaders, frustrate the plans of the wicked, and bring our loved ones back safely and swiftly.
“Eid Mubarak. Let us keep the faith,” he concluded.
