The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has stepped into the long-running Onido stool crisis and has announced plans to inaugurate a probe panel to investigate the dispute rocking Ido township.
This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday, January 8, by the media aide to the Olubadan, Adeola Oloko.
The monarch disclosed that the panel would be inaugurated on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan.
He urged all parties involved in the dispute to maintain peace while the process unfolds.
The crisis centres on claims to the Onido of Ido stool, with three individuals reportedly laying claim to the traditional leadership of the town.
The dispute is said to have lingered for about 19 years, fuelling division and uncertainty within the township.
According to the statement, the Olubadan said the panel would commence sitting immediately after its inauguration.
While the names and composition of the committee were not disclosed, the statement outlined a clear mandate for the panel.
According to the release, the committee is expected to examine both the remote and immediate causes of the Onido stool crisis and make far-reaching recommendations that would guide the Olubadan and his council towards a lasting resolution.
The intervention follows renewed concerns raised earlier this week by stakeholders from Ido town in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The stakeholders lamented that the community had remained in a “delicate situation since 1997,” alleging that multiple appointments and counter-appointments had deepened divisions in the town.
They identified the three claimants to the stool as Oba Benjamin Ademola Ishola Orobiyi, Tajudeen Akinola and Muritala Babalola.
The stakeholders had appealed to both Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland to intervene in the matter to restore stability and traditional order.
The palace noted that the decision to set up the panel was taken in line with the Olubadan’s role as the prescribed and consenting authority on all chieftaincy matters in Ibadanland.
