The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old male, identified as Usman Dauda, for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl in Saki, Oyo State.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, September 24, 2026, by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade.
According to the statement, the arrest followed a distress report lodged at the Saki Divisional Police Station on September 17, 2026, at about 6 p.m., after the child reportedly went missing while being retrieved from school earlier that afternoon.
The police said a localized search subsequently led to the recovery of the child along a roadside, where she was found in a distressed condition.
“Preliminary inquiries revealed that the suspect had forcefully taken her into his apartment to commit the heinous act,” the statement said.
Following the revelation, detectives visited and secured the alleged crime scene, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspect and recovery of physical evidence linked to the crime.
The command said the child was promptly taken to a medical facility in Saki, where she is currently receiving clinical treatment and psychotherapeutic care.
The police spokesperson said the command maintained a zero-tolerance policy towards child abuse and sexual violence, assuring residents that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
Ayanlade added that, in compliance with the Child Rights Act and established ethical protection guidelines, the identity, privacy and dignity of the child and her family would be protected throughout the process.
“In its bid to rid the state of gender-based violence and offenses targeted at women and vulnerables, operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a 17-year-old male, one Usman Dauda, for defiling a 3-year-old girl in Saki.
“This operational breakthrough followed a distress report lodged at the Saki Divisional Station on September 17, 2026, at about 1800hrs, after the child went missing while being retrieved from school earlier that afternoon.
“A localized search subsequently led to her recovery along the roadside in a state of distress, where preliminary inquiries revealed that the suspect had forcefully taken her into his apartment to commit the heinous act.
“Prompted by this revelation, detectives swiftly visited and secured the scene of the crime, resulting in the immediate arrest of the suspect and the recovery of critical physical evidence linked to the offense.
“While investigations were immediately activated, the young survivor was promptly rushed to a medical facility in Saki, where she is currently receiving comprehensive clinical treatment and psychotherapeutic care,” Ayanlade said.
The case has since been transferred to the Gender Desk of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation and prosecution.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected acts of violence against children and other vulnerable persons to the nearest police facility.
