Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode on Nigeria’s Independence Day condemned the deadly attack on Oke-Ode in Kwara State and urged a shoot-to-destroy approach to the militants responsible.
This was as he offered condolences to the state governor and bereaved families over the development.
In a strongly worded post on his official Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) accounts, Fani-Kayode described the assailants who killed members of a local forest guard unit as “homicidal maniacs and blood-lusting terrorists”.
He said the “only way to handle terrorists is to kill every single one of them and send them back to hell.”
He added that there could be “no negotiation or discussion with psychopaths and the sons of perdition who kill innocent women and children at will.”
The attack, which took place on Sunday in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara state, reportedly left 12 forest guards dead and several others wounded, according to police and multiple news reports.
Authorities say no group has yet claimed responsibility. Local officials and security sources described the community as traumatised and called for calm even as they appealed for strengthened security measures.
Fani-Kayode in his post, extended “heartfelt condolences and commiserations” to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the people of Kwara, and praised the nation’s security agencies for their efforts.
He called for broader public cooperation in identifying local collaborators he said aid foreign actors allegedly seeking to destabilise Nigeria. He called for increased military presence in the state to counter the onslaught.
Governor AbdulRazaq has publicly appealed for a more robust security response following the attack, commending local forest guards and hunters for their resistance even as they suffered heavy losses, officials said.
The state government has also sought to quell rumours circulating online that security arrangements had been undermined prior to the raid.
