The management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has dismissed rumours suggesting that the institution has been shut down over recent security concerns linked to the abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a special release issued by the Office of the Registrar on Tuesday, the university assured students, staff and residents of Ogbomoso that there was “no cause for alarm,” stressing that academic activities were continuing without disruption.
The institution said the clarification became necessary following growing anxiety and widespread speculation generated by reports surrounding recent security developments in parts of Oriire Local Government Area.
“The University remains safe, and academic activities continue without disruption as security agencies are actively monitoring the situation,” the statement read.
The statement, signed by the Registrar, Mrs Olayinka O. Balogun, urged members of the university community to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of heightening tension.
According to the management, security agencies are closely monitoring the situation while proactive measures have been put in place to guarantee the safety of lives and property within and around the institution.
The university further reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and security of students and staff, adding that timely updates would be provided should there be any new developments.
The reassurance comes amid heightened concerns in Ogbomoso and adjoining communities following the recent abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area, which has triggered panic and misinformation on social media.
Residents and students had earlier expressed fears over the security situation, with rumours circulating online alleging possible attacks and closure of institutions in the area.
However, LAUTECH management maintained that normal academic and social activities continue uninterruptedly, while calling on members of the public to rely only on verified information from official sources.
