The Christian Association of Nigeria, Osun State chapter, on Tuesday honoured the Chairman of the association in Oyo State, Revd Dr. Elisha Olukayode Ogundiya, with an Award of Honour in recognition of his service to the Christian community.

The award was presented at the Osun State Annual General Meeting held at the CAN Secretariat, Aisu, Ede, along Gbongan-Ibadan Road in Osun State.

The ceremony was conducted under the leadership of the Osun State CAN Chairman, Revd Dr. John A. Adeleke, who commended Ogundiya’s contributions to the growth and stability of the association during his tenure in the state.

In his remarks, the Osun CAN Chairman, Very Revd Samuel Temitope Owolabi, said the honour was conferred in appreciation of Ogundiya’s “meritorious, selfless and patriotic service” while he served as Chairman of CAN in Osun State.

According to him, “Revd Dr. Ogundiya demonstrated outstanding Christian virtues and exemplary leadership at a time the Christian body in the state faced numerous challenges.

His calm disposition, courage and commitment helped to steady the ship during turbulent times.”

Owolabi urged Christian leaders across the country to emulate Ogundiya’s model of leadership, describing it as one anchored on integrity and devotion to God’s work rather than personal interests.

Responding, Ogundiya expressed gratitude to the Osun Christian community for what he described as a heartfelt recognition of his efforts.

“I am deeply humbled by this honour. Serving the body of Christ in Osun was a privilege and a divine assignment. Whatever was achieved during my tenure was by God’s grace and the collective support of faithful leaders and members,” he said.

He charged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and committed to their calling, noting that leadership in the Christian fold requires sacrifice, discipline and a consistent example.

Ogundiya also assured that, in his current capacity as Oyo State CAN Chairman, he would continue to collaborate with the Osun chapter to strengthen unity and advance the work of the gospel across state lines.

The event was attended by a representative of the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, as well as members of the Oyo State CAN leadership delegation, which was led by the state secretary.
