The Special Adviser on Solid Mineral Development to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and Director-General of the Oyo State Mineral Development Agency (OYSMIDA), Abiodun Oni, has distributed food items and cash to leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Olorunsogo Local Government Area of the state.
The financial and material support, which came as Muslims observe Ramadan while Christians mark Lent, was targeted at easing the financial burden on party leaders during the period.
The programme, held last Thursday in Igbeti, the headquarters of Olorunsogo Local Government, saw the distribution of bags of rice and cash gifts to PDP leaders in the area.
Speaking at the event, Oni said the initiative was designed to support party leaders who continue to shoulder responsibilities within the party structure, particularly during the fasting season.
The beneficiaries commended the governor’s aide for what they described as his consistent contributions to the growth of the PDP and the welfare of party members in Olorunsogo Local Government.
Oni also praised leaders and stakeholders of the party in the council area for their loyalty and commitment despite challenges facing the PDP.
He equally acknowledged their continued support for Governor Makinde, whom he described as a committed democrat dedicated to the well-being of the people of Oyo state.
In a related development, Oni hosted an Iftar programme for PDP leaders across the three local government areas that make up the Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope Federal Constituency.
The event, held at his residence in Igbeti on Saturday, brought together party leaders from Igboho, Kisi and Igbeti.
Among those in attendance were former Oyo North PDP Senatorial Chairman, Yakubu Oladojo; Special Adviser to the governor on Irepo Federal Constituency, Sarafadeen Yusuff Alani; and the Oyo North PDP Senatorial Chairman, Yinusa Adekunle Yusuff.
Also present were former and current Oorelope PDP chairmen, Azeez Adeoti and Safariyu Oyelowo; Special Adviser to the Deputy Governor, Ayindr Ogede; representatives of the Irepo Local Government chairman and the Irepo PDP chairman.
From Olorunsogo Local Government, the council chairman, Qazeem Olayanju; former party chairman, Saminu; and the incumbent chairman, Shola Adeyemo, also attended.
Addressing his guests, Oni urged party leaders to remain calm and united, assuring them that the PDP would overcome its current challenges.
He described the party as “apamaku,” a resilient entity capable of weathering political storms, adding that leaders must remain steadfast as Makinde and other stakeholders continue efforts to stabilise the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
Oni further called on PDP leaders in the constituency to mobilise grassroots support for the party ahead of future elections, stressing the need to reclaim the Irepo Federal Constituency for the PDP.
