JAGZ Hotel, has appointed seasoned hospitality professional, Jonathan Odia, as its new General Manager, while reaffirming its commitment to quality assurance, operational excellence and customer satisfaction as it embarks on an ambitious expansion drive within Nigeria and across Africa.

The announcement was made on Monday during a press conference held at the hotel in Ibadan, where the management unveiled its strategic growth plans and outlined its vision of becoming a leading African hospitality brand.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director of JAGZ Hotel, Lugard Agbomoagan, said the appointment of the new General Manager was part of deliberate efforts to strengthen leadership, improve service delivery and position the hotel for its next phase of growth.

Agbomoagan noted that since opening its doors about 20 months ago, the hotel had steadily grown from a new entrant in the hospitality industry into a respected brand known for excellence, innovation and customer-focused services.

According to him, the hotel’s vision from inception has been to create a hospitality experience that is luxurious, authentic and proudly African while remaining deeply rooted in the continent’s culture, warmth and tradition of service.

He particularly praised governor Seyi Makinde and his administration for providing the enabling environment for private investments to thrive while boosting investors confidence with transparency and business friendly policies and initiatives.

“When we opened our doors 20 months ago, our vision was simple but bold: to create a hospitality excellence that is without borders and limits in Africa. Less than two years later, it is incredibly rewarding to see how far we have come.

“What started as a new entrant in the industry is steadily becoming a respected name and a growing standard within the market,” he said.

The Managing Director disclosed that the hotel’s commitment to exceptional service and high operational standards had translated into strong and steadily growing occupancy rates, increased patronage from corporate organisations and high-value clients, expanding brand recognition, as well as improved customer satisfaction.

He added that beyond business growth, the hotel had succeeded in building enduring relationships with guests and staff members, resulting in strong customer loyalty and referrals.

“People trust The Jagz, they return and they confidently recommend us to others. This means everything to us,” Agbomoagan stated.

He stressed that the future of hospitality in Africa belongs to brands that embrace innovation and continuous improvement, noting that JAGZ Hotel is focused on building not just a hotel but a hospitality institution capable of setting standards across the continent.

As part of its expansion strategy, Agbomoagan announced plans to increase room capacity, upgrade guest facilities and improve infrastructure to accommodate a larger spectrum of customers.

He also revealed that the hotel would expand its footprint to Abuja as part of efforts to establish itself as a regional hospitality destination capable of hosting premium events, conferences and large-scale gatherings.

According to him, the expansion reflects confidence in Africa’s growing tourism industry, increasing business mobility and regional economic integration, especially under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

“The Jagz is positioning itself as an emerging African hospitality brand with a long-term continental outlook. As Africa experiences increased trade, cross-border business engagement and investment opportunities, hospitality brands must evolve to serve a new generation of African and international travellers,” he said.

The MD further announced plans for the JAGZ Hospitality Conference 2026, describing it as a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on the future of the hospitality sector in Nigeria.

He said the conference would bring together operators, investors, policymakers and industry leaders to discuss emerging trends, innovation, resilience and the intersection between hospitality and broader national issues, including economic developments and elections.

On the appointment of Odia, Agbomoagan said the new General Manager brings decades of experience from globally recognised hospitality brands and possesses the expertise required to drive the hotel’s strategic objectives.

“A brand like The Jagz needs an experienced hospitality professional whose career includes valuable experience with internationally recognised brands.

“His appointment reflects our continued commitment to raising standards, strengthening our operations and delivering even better experiences for our guests. We are confident that his leadership, expertise and vision will contribute significantly to excellence at The Jagz as we move into an exciting new phase of growth,” he said.

In his remarks, Odia expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the hotel and pledged to leverage his extensive experience to support its growth ambitions.

The hospitality expert disclosed that he has spent approximately three decades in the industry, working with some of the world’s most recognised hotel brands.

He traced his career journey to Abuja, where he began in 1986 with the Golden Tulip brand before moving to Hilton Hotel Abuja, Sheraton Abuja, Southern Sun, Marriott, Continental, InterContinental and Rotana Hotels in the United Arab Emirates.

Odia said his professional experience spans both local and international hospitality markets, having risen through the ranks from Front Office Manager to General Manager.

“I have worked and travelled extensively both within Nigeria and abroad. Over the years, I have served in various leadership positions, including Front Office Manager, Manager, Assistant General Manager and General Manager.

“I have gained extensive experience, and together we will continue to move forward and achieve greater success,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, described Odia as a highly accomplished hospitality professional whose wealth of experience would add tremendous value to the organisation.

The commissioner commended the management of JAGZ Hotel for attracting a hospitality expert with a proven track record across reputable international hotel brands.

“The man you are seeing is highly experienced and accomplished. He has spent more than 30 years in the hospitality business, not in half-star, one-star or two-star establishments, but in reputable three-star and four-star hotels.

“The Managing Director and the Chairman have succeeded in bringing in a very big fish, someone who will positively impact the development of this establishment,” Olatubosun said.

He also lauded the rapid growth of JAGZ Hotel, noting that despite operating for less than three years, the hotel had emerged as one of the leading hospitality establishments in Oyo State.

According to him, the hotel’s reputation for quality service and professionalism has distinguished it from competitors within the state’s hospitality industry.

“Before this hotel came on board, there were several leading hotels in Ibadan competing for recognition. However, I have not heard any negative comments from anyone concerning JAGZ Hotel.

“Now that you are joining the team, we are confident that the hotel will continue to grow from strength to strength,” the commissioner added.

The event brought together members of the media, industry stakeholders, business partners and tourism enthusiasts, as JAGZ Hotel reiterated its commitment to maintaining world-class standards, enhancing guest experiences and contributing to the growth of the hospitality industry in Nigeria and Africa.
