The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has been honoured with the Outstanding Legislative Leadership Award by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.
The award was presented during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Oyo NUJ Press Week, held at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan. The week-long celebration is dedicated to promoting excellence in journalism and recognizing individuals whose contributions continue to shape governance and society.
Presenting the award, the Chairman of Oyo NUJ, Chief Ademola Babalola, described the Speaker as “a beacon of youthful leadership, legislative excellence, and a dependable ally of the media in advancing transparency and democratic values.”
He praised Ogundoyin’s consistency in promoting people-centered legislation and for his open relationship with the media, which he said had enhanced public access to legislative processes in the state.
Representing Governor Seyi Makinde at the event, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, commended the NUJ for its steadfast commitment to the ideals of a free press and responsible journalism. He also congratulated the awardees, noting that their service continues to inspire good governance and civic responsibility across Oyo State.
In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin expressed heartfelt appreciation to the NUJ for the honour. He described the award as both humbling and inspiring, saying it would further strengthen his resolve to serve with integrity and vision.
> “This award is not just for me but for every young person striving to make a meaningful impact in leadership,” he said. “I thank the NUJ for acknowledging our efforts and reaffirm my commitment to working closely with the media as partners in deepening our democracy and promoting accountability.”
Also honoured at the ceremony was Oloye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, Chairman of Solution FM, who served as Guest Lecturer during the opening session and was equally recognized for his contributions to media development and public enlightenment.
The event, which brought together media professionals, government officials, and civic leaders, set the tone for a week of reflection, learning, and recognition of excellence within Oyo’s vibrant media community.
