The Oyo State Police Command has commenced a three-day capacity building and enhancement training programme for its officers,
The training is targeted at strengthening operational effectiveness and promoting professional policing standards across the state.
The initiative, in partnership with FASE Security Consultancy Training, was officially flagged off on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the IGP Alkali Baba Usman Conference Hall, Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.
In his opening remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Johnson O. Adenola, described the programme as a strategic investment in the command’s most vital resource which is its personnel.
He emphasized the importance of continual training in the face of increasingly complex criminal activity and rising public expectations.
“Capacity building is not a luxury, but a necessity. To meet our constitutional mandate to protect and serve, we must equip our officers with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed for modern policing,” the police boss stated.
The training, which runs through May 16, will cover 11 specialized modules including statutory police duties, the judicious use of force and firearms, principles of proportionality and accountability, and inter-agency cooperation.
Participants include Divisional Police Officers, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and heads of the Command’s tactical units.
CP Adenola acknowledged the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for prioritizing professionalism, innovation, and community-focused policing.
He further highlighted the partnership with FASE Security Consultancy Training as a vital step toward staying ahead of security threats through expert-led development.
The programme features seasoned security expert, AIG Olafimihan Adeoye, as the lead resource person.
Renowned for his expertise in intelligence, operations, training, and investigations, AIG Adeoye is expected to provide deep insights and practical knowledge throughout the training sessions.
Speaking with newsmen, CP Adenola encouraged participants to actively engage, ask questions, and adopt best practices, stressing that the true impact of the training would be measured by improved service delivery and enhanced community security.
“I am pleased to formally declare this three-day capacity building and enhancement training program officially flagged off. I wish all participants a productive and enriching experience,” he said.
Also speaking with journalists at the Police Command, the leads resource person, AIG Fimihan Adeoye (rtd.) said the training would enhance the capacity and skills of field personnel while calling the capacity building training a “training the trainer” engagement.
One of the participants, the Oyo State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), CSP Osifeso Adewale, commended the Commissioner of Police for his visionary leadership and proactiveness in facilitating capacity building training for personnel of the state command.
He urged personnel to fully key into the vision of the IGP and the CP to actively participate in the training program, which he assured will manifest in a more robust policing system in line with global best practice.
Describing it as timely, Osifeso noted that the training would translate into improved performance by police personnel in relating with members of the public while fighting crime, as well as enhance the overall service delivery of the state Police Command.
