The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a one-month-old baby girl allegedly sold for ₦2 million and arrested two suspects, including the child’s mother and the owner of the health facility where she was delivered.
The incident occurred in Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan, while the police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the alleged child trafficking.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, October 16, 2026.
According to the statement, the case was reported on October 15 by Mary Amos, a resident of the Ogunwade area of Ido, who raised concerns over the disappearance of her granddaughter.
The police said the suspect implicated the owner of the health facility, 40-year-old Dr Adeleke Ebenezer, and Hassan Oludunni, whom she alleged lured her into the arrangement and facilitated the sale of the baby to Odunayo Folawewo.
Investigations reportedly revealed that the transaction involved ₦2 million, out of which Cecilia allegedly received ₦1 million, while Adeleke and Oludunni received ₦500,000 each.
The police subsequently rescued the baby girl and arrested Adeleke, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend Folawewo and bring all those involved to justice.
Reiterating its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons, the command urged members of the public to promptly report suspected cases of child trafficking and other related offences.
The statement advised residents to contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre through its toll-free emergency line, 615, or the police command’s control room on 08081768614 and 07055495413 for emergencies.
