The Oyo State Interfaith Office has congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde on the Iconic Integrity Award presented to him by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

This was as the Special Assistant on Interfaith Affairs to the governor, Reverend Femi Ibikunle, in a congratulatory message, described the recognition as a reflection of his leadership character and a source of pride for Oyo state at the national level.

The office said the award reflects the importance of leadership anchored on integrity, accountability and service to the people, noting that Makinde’s recognition at the national level had brought honour to Oyo State.

Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), received the award at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja during activities marking the 50th anniversary of CAN.

The governor was among dignitaries who attended the golden jubilee celebration alongside the APM National Chairman, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, and other leaders and members of the party.

The award, described by the organisers as an Icon Award, recognised what CAN characterised as godly character in leadership.

Reacting to the award, the Interfaith Office said Makinde’s recognition by the umbrella body of Christian community in the country further reflects the significance of integrity and responsible leadership in public service.

He described the governor as a visionary leader whose administration had continued to attract recognition beyond Oyo State, adding that the CAN honour was a moment of pride for the people of the state.

The office also noted that the award came at a significant moment in CAN’s history, as the association marked five decades of engagement with religious, political and social issues in Nigeria.

Established in 1976, CAN serves as the umbrella body for various Christian denominations and organisations across the country.

Its 50th anniversary brought together Christian leaders, political office holders and other stakeholders to reflect on the association’s contributions to national development and religious engagement.

“Governor Seyi Makinde is indeed a true and visionary leader worthy of emulation by young and older politicians alike because of how he’s making Oyo state proud everywhere he goes.

“The award is a clear testament to integrity, selflessness, and dedication to the cause of humanity through public service.

“The award is particularly significant in the anals of CAN’s history because it is coming at a historic moment of the body’s golden Jubilee anniversary celebration.

“We’re more than blessed in Oyo state to have such leader who does not just aspire for public office but to make visible impact and create trans generational legacies that for the coming generation to emulate,” Rev Ibikunle said.
