State chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on the leadership of the party to urgently convene a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to address the challenges arising from the recent appellate court judgment that nullified the party’s national convention held in Ibadan.
The resolution, contained in a communiqué issued by the PDP State Chairmen’s Forum on Tuesday, urged the party’s Board of Trustees, governors elected on the PDP platform and other key leaders to initiate reconciliation efforts aimed at stabilising the party and restoring unity.
The convention in question, which held between November 15 and 16, 2025 in Ibadan, was recently nullified by the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, a development the state chairmen said had far-reaching implications for the party.
In the communiqué jointly signed by the Forum Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and the Forum Secretary, Edward Percy Masha, the state chairmen said they received the judgment with mixed feelings but affirmed their respect for the authority of the judiciary.
According to them, while the nullification of the convention was regrettable, the forum noted with appreciation that the appellate court upheld the suspension of three party members whose actions were said to have contributed to the internal crisis within the PDP.
The chairmen stressed that as custodians of the party’s grassroots structures across the federation, they remained committed to preserving the unity, stability and institutional integrity of the PDP.
They therefore advised the party’s leadership to continue with the necessary legal processes over the judgment, while simultaneously pursuing political solutions that could bring aggrieved stakeholders together.
“In this regard, the Forum respectfully urges the Board of Trustees to immediately convene a meeting of the National Executive Committee through the alternate means provided in the party constitution to address these issues and provide direction for the party,” the communiqué stated.
The forum also commended party members across the country for their enthusiasm in the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise, describing the progress reports from states as encouraging.
It called on leaders at the local government and ward levels to intensify mobilisation efforts to ensure wider participation in the exercise, which it described as critical to rebuilding the party’s grassroots strength.
The state chairmen further urged members of the party to remain steadfast despite the current challenges, expressing optimism that the PDP would emerge stronger through unity and collective commitment.
They maintained that the pathway for rebuilding the party had already been created and assured members that the full restoration of the PDP was achievable if leaders and supporters worked together in the overall interest of the party and the country.
The forum reaffirmed its commitment to the unity and progress of the PDP and called on all leaders and members to close ranks in order to reposition the party as a viable democratic platform for Nigerians.
Present at the meeting were Governors of Oyo and Bauchi States, Seyi Makinde and Bala Muhammed, Senator Adolphus Wabara, alongside other national leaders of the party.
