The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), representing 81.50 per cent of registered voters in Osun State, have been collected ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The Commission, in a statement issued on Thursday by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the final figure was based on the total number of registered voters in the state.
The Commission’s announcement followed the completion of its PVC collection and replacement processes ahead of the election.
According to INEC, Osun has 2,339,233 registered voters, while 432,843 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, remain uncollected.
The electoral body said the uncollected cards had been safely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in accordance with its established procedures.
INEC also disclosed that some registered voters whose PVCs were damaged, defaced or lost applied for replacement.
It said 6,101 persons among those who applied for replacement had printed downloadable copies of their PVCs.
The Commission explained that a polling-unit-by-polling-unit breakdown of the collected PVCs had been published on its official website for public access and verification.
The disclosure comes barely 48 hours before the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, in which voters across the state will elect the next governor.
INEC said it remained fully prepared for the election, assuring political parties, civil society organisations, the media and residents of its commitment to delivering a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive poll.
“The Commission reassures political parties, civil society organisations, media, and the good people of Osun State of its total readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent, and inclusive election on Saturday, 15th August 2026,” Haruna said.
The latest PVC figures mean that more than four out of every five registered voters in Osun have collected their cards and are therefore positioned to participate in the election, subject to meeting other electoral requirements.
The final figures also provide an indication of the potential voter pool ahead of what is expected to be a closely watched governorship contest, with political parties intensifying their mobilisation efforts across the state.
INEC urged all stakeholders to remain committed to peaceful conduct and respect for the electoral process as the state heads to the polls.
