The political camp of Oyo State federal lawmaker, Honorable Remi Oseni, appears to be facing fresh turbulence as another bloc of members associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends (ROCOF) has defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo state.
The latest realignment came on Friday as the Omigborotiti Group, led by Hon. Hamzat Rasheed Bamidele, popularly known as Omigborotiti, formally joined the APM and declared its support for the party’s candidate for Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, Engr. Kolawole Sheu Adedeji, popularly known as KSA.
The development is coming on the heels of a recent public clarification by an APC stalwart from Ido, Akinola Olumide, popularly known as Olumba, who disclosed that he had resigned from ROCOF before joining the APM.
Olumba’s decision and the latest movement by the Omigborotiti Group point to continuing political realignments within the APC/ROCOF camp in Ido, as politicians and grassroots actors reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
The reception of the new APM members was led by KSA alongside the PDP/APM Alliance Chairman in Ido Local Government, Alhaji Musibau Emiola, as well as other party leaders and grassroots stakeholders.
Among the notable former APC/ROCOF members received into the APM were Mr. Jelili Ayelagbe of Ward 7 and Deeko Omo Baba Akeweje of Apete Ward 4, alongside several grassroots supporters from different wards across the local government.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, leaders of the Omigborotiti Group pledged their support for the APM and its candidates, promising to mobilise their supporters and grassroots structures for the party.
They said their decision was based on their confidence in KSA’s leadership capacity and political vision, expressing the belief that he would adequately represent the interests of the people of the constituency.
Receiving the defectors, KSA and Emiola described their movement as a major boost to the APM’s grassroots structure in Ido.
They assured the new members that the party would remain an inclusive platform where individuals would be treated with fairness and respect, irrespective of when they joined the party.
KSA further assured the defectors that their interests, welfare and political aspirations would receive due attention within the APM, urging them to remain committed to the party’s objectives.
The Omigborotiti Group disclosed that the latest movement was only a prelude to a larger political declaration, announcing that no fewer than 500 of its members were prepared to formally dump the APC/ROCOF structure for the APM.
The group said the date for the proposed mass declaration would be announced in due course.
If carried out as announced, the planned 500-member movement could further expand the APM’s grassroots network in Ido and deepen the ongoing political realignment in the area.
The latest defection has added another political significance against the backdrop of Olumba’s recent departure from ROCOF.
Westernmirror.com.ng had previously reported that Olumba, who previously served as Special Adviser on Power and Energy under Oseni, said he resigned from ROCOF before joining the APM, insisting that his decision was deliberate and properly documented.
He also challenged those circulating allegations against him to produce evidence rather than engage in what he described as “side talking.”
The APC stalwart said he served as Oseni’s Special Adviser for about 18 months following his appointment in May 2024, adding that the appointment was terminated in December 2025.
He further alleged that he was owed N30,000 for four months during his period of service, a claim that has not been independently verified.
Olumba also rejected allegations that he personally benefited from transformers associated with Oseni.
“For you saying I was distributing Oseni transformers, my question is: did Oseni gift me the transformers to take home and power my house?” he asked.
He described the allegations as attempts to damage his reputation and maintained that his resignation letter from ROCOF was available for anyone interested in verifying his account.
His public clarification, coming shortly before the Omigborotiti Group’s defection, has provided an additional political backdrop to the latest movement away from the APC/ROCOF camp.
