Barely 24 hours after the defection of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah to the All Progressives Congress (APC), another major political tremor has hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has also resigned from the party, taking along with him 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
The development was confirmed on Tuesday through a brief post shared by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, on Facebook.
The post, though terse, sent political circles buzzing, marking what could be one of the most consequential waves of defection in recent years for the PDP.
While details of the move are still emerging, credible sources within the PDP camp suggest that Diri and the lawmakers may be finalizing plans to formally declare their defection to the ruling APC in the coming days.
More details to follow…
