The Oyo State Government has called on traditional religious leaders and cultural stakeholders to intensify efforts in making indigenous culture and heritage attractive to younger generations and the international community.
Governor Seyi Makinde made the call on Thursday at the grand finale of the 2025 Isese Day celebration, held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Development, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, the governor stressed that educating the youth about their roots would not only safeguard cultural traditions but also foster broader acceptance and continuity of indigenous practices.
Makinde assured traditional leaders of his administration’s continued support, urging them to sustain their prayers for the state government.
He also highlighted his government’s achievements in promoting cultural heritage, citing the 2023 UNESCO enlistment of the Sango Festival—an unprecedented recognition in Yorubaland.
Speaking earlier, the Araba/Olu-Isese of Ibadanland, Ifalere Odegbola, and the Aare Isese of Oyo State, Chief Omikunmi Egbelade, described Isese as a religion of peace, tolerance, and respect for humanity.
They applauded the Makinde administration for its inclusiveness and commitment to promoting religious harmony, while noting that unity remains key to sustaining traditional heritage.
The colorful event featured captivating cultural performances and drew the attendance of traditional rulers, government officials, political leaders, and worshippers from across Oyo State.
