The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has promised to wade into the challenges facing Yoruba nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
This follows a private meeting between the duo at the monarch’s Bodija residence during the week.
The meeting, which was held on Monday and lasted about 40 minutes, was disclosed in a statement released by Igboho’s media office and made available to journalists on Wednesday.
According to the statement, discussions centered on insecurity in the South West, the growing threats posed by bandits in some parts of Kwara State, and Igboho’s personal ordeals with the Federal Government.
A source close to the meeting revealed that Oba Ladoja warmly received Igboho and his supporters before assuring them that he would intervene in the activist’s lingering issues, including his declaration as wanted and the freezing of his bank accounts under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
It would be recalled that on July 1, 2021, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), backed by the Nigerian Army, stormed Igboho’s Soka residence in Ibadan, killing two of his aides and arresting 13 others, after he was accused of stockpiling arms.
During the meeting, Igboho congratulated Oba Ladoja on his ascension to the throne, describing him as a leader deeply admired not only in Ibadan but across Yorubaland and beyond.
“Olubadan has been a father figure to me since his days as governor of Oyo State. I commend Kabiyesi’s leadership qualities, humility, and enduring influence.
“His reign will no doubt further promote peace, unity, and development in Ibadanland and the entire Yorubaland,” Igboho said.
He also expressed willingness to collaborate with the Federal Government to strengthen security in the South West, stressing that peace and stability remain prerequisites for development.
