The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Johnson Adenola, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into allegations of unprofessional conduct by operatives attached to the Jobele Division, an incident said to have sparked a protest earlier on Tuesday.
The State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, made this known when contacted by newsmen on Tuesday, March 10.
The directive according to the Police Spokesman, followed reports that the actions of some officers from the division triggered public outrage, leading to demonstrations in the area.
In a swift response, the police command announced that the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who led the patrol team involved in the incident and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the division have both been issued queries as part of preliminary disciplinary procedures.
The command also disclosed that the Inspector directly implicated in the matter has been defaulted and taken into custody pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
According to the police authorities, the probe has already commenced and will be conducted strictly in line with established regulations governing the operations of the force.
The command assured members of the public that the investigation would thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the level of culpability, if any, and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are taken where necessary.
It further reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and respect for the rights of citizens in the discharge of policing duties across the state.
