A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has moved to kick-start internal preparations for the party’s planned electronic membership registration, following a high-level virtual meeting with governors, national officers and state chairmen.
Turaki disclosed this via a post on his official handle on X, formerly Twitter on Monday, March 2.
The meeting, which held virtually on Monday, brought together the party’s 36 state chairmen including the FCT, members of the National Working Committee, Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
Addressing participants, Turaki said discussions focused on the modalities for the forthcoming e-registration exercise and the responsibilities of state chapters in ensuring its success.
He described the initiative as a strategic step rather than a routine administrative update, noting that it is aimed at strengthening internal party structures, improving transparency and modernising the membership database nationwide.
According to him, the meeting reviewed the proposed operational framework for the exercise, including timelines, coordination mechanisms, reporting channels and the roles expected at state and local government levels.
He stressed the need for early preparation, stakeholder sensitisation and effective supervision to prevent bottlenecks and ensure a smooth rollout.
Turaki also urged state chairmen and members of the National Working Committee to take full ownership of the process by working closely with state executives and technical teams.
He said inclusiveness, credibility and efficiency would be critical to the overall success of the exercise.
Participants at the meeting reportedly made frank and solution-driven contributions, with a shared emphasis on repositioning the party for greater effectiveness ahead of future political engagements.
The leadership reaffirmed its commitment to unity and reform within the Peoples Democratic Party, expressing confidence that the e-registration initiative would help build a stronger and more digitally responsive organisation.
