The long-awaited coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Senator) Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, has been officially scheduled for Monday, September 26, 2025, following the approval of his nomination by Governor Seyi Makinde.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the acting media aid to Oba Ladoja, Alhaji Adeola Oloko, who revealed that preparations are already underway for the historic ceremony.
According to him, the Coronation Committee will be chaired by Chief Mustapha Bayo Oyero, a respected member of Ibadan elders council, tasked with coordinating all traditional and administrative arrangements.
Governor Makinde, while granting approval, described the event as a historic milestone not only for Ibadanland but also for Oyo State at large.
He noted that the ascension of Oba Ladoja to the revered throne “symbolises unity, continuity, and the resilience of Ibadan’s cultural heritage.”
Oba Ladoja’s road to the throne has been described as both eventful and historic. Born in 1944, the monarch is not only a successful businessman and respected politician but also a former governor of Oyo State (2003–2007).
Despite his years in active politics, Ladoja never wavered in his cultural responsibility, steadily climbing the ranks in Ibadan’s unique chieftaincy system, which progresses strictly by promotion and seniority.
Over the years, he rose through the traditional hierarchy until he emerged as the most senior chief and rightful candidate for the throne, following the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, earlier this year.
